LakshoreHabitat2018

Friday, July 13, 2018

On July 13, the Lakeshore Region held a First Merchants Serves Day for the Habitat for Humanity and their National Women Build program. Seven employees assisted with the building of a home in Gary, Indiana. They worked hard in 90 degree heat, had loads of fun, and actually raised the roof!

Habitat for Humanity builds affordable places to call home. Each home is sold to a qualified partner family at no profit, financed with affordable, no interest loans. The homeowner's monthly mortgage payments go into a revolving fund for Habitat for Humanity that is used to build more homes. Each family is required to contribute 300 hours of "sweat equity" to build their own home and to help other prospective homeowners build their houses.
