At First Merchants, your financial security is our top priority. With card controls available in the First Merchants mobile app, you have an added layer of protection over your debit card.

From setting spending limits to locking in geographic boundaries for purchases, debit card controls allow you to decide how, when and where your card is used. Read on to learn more about how you can use card controls with your First Merchants debit card.

 

 

Limit the types of transactions your card can make. Using Transaction Type Controls, you can decide which types of purchases to allow with your debit card. For example, if you do all your shopping in person, you can disable online purchases. Or if you never use cash, you can disable ATM transactions. Using Transaction Type Controls, you can enable or disable up to six different types of transactions on your debit card at once.

Assign spending restrictions. Through card controls, you can set a specific threshold as your spending limit. Any transactions that exceed your spending limit will be declined. The benefits of spending limits are twofold: You can prevent overspending while also protecting your account from large fraudulent purchases.

Control the locations where your debit card can be used. With Location and Merchant Controls, you can map out specific regions where your debit card purchases will be accepted. You can assign up to three different regions. Any purchases made outside these boundaries are automatically declined.

Turn your debit card on or off to prevent fraudulent spending. If you lose your debit card or detect any suspicious activity, you can immediately turn your card on or off through the First Merchants mobile app.

Turn on notifications for purchases. Track all spending on your debit card by enabling notifications whenever purchases are made. You can customize notifications based on specific merchants, transaction types, spending thresholds and geography.
