The Automated Clearing House (ACH) is an electronic funds transfer network of regional associations (many operated by the Federal Reserve), inter-bank associations, and private sector processors. ACH provides a safe, efficient method of moving funds on a next-day basis without the time delay of paper checks or the expense of a wire transfer. Money can be moved to and from any financial institution that participates in the ACH network.
Direct Deposit
Don’t let bad weather or a busy schedule delay your deposit! With the convenience of automatic Direct Deposit, payments reach your account the day the check is issued - even if you are out of town, sick or unable to get to the bank. And your funds are available on the day of receipt!
You can even start building your savings by having a portion of your money deposited directly to your savings account.

Wire Transfers
Wire Transfers offer accelerated clearings, enhanced cash flow, reduced return item risk and reduced processing costs.

Stop Payments
If you need to stop payment on a check you've written,
contact us as soon as possible, either at a banking center,
by phone at 1.800.205.3464, or through online banking.
If the
check has not yet been cashed, we will not honor
the check at your request.
You can also issue a stop payment using our telephone banking service.
A fee applies for this service.
Money Orders and Official Checks
Has someone requested you pay with a money order or bank check? We offer Official Checks and Money Orders to First Merchants Bank deposit account customers.
Money orders are a prepaid alternative to traditional checks. Funds are withdrawn from your account when you purchase the money order, so there is no risk of overdrawing your account when it is cashed. Keep your receipt if you'd like to verify
the money order was received and cashed by your recipient.
An official bank check is another prepaid option.
Funds are withdrawn from your account and then a check is issued by the bank for the correct amount. Some of our checking accounts include
complementary official checks.
Safe Deposit Boxes
Available in a variety of sizes to meet most needs, our Safe Deposit Boxes provide you with a convenient place to store important items that would be difficult to replace. Use our Safe Deposit Boxes to store anything of value that you do not need immediate access to, such as:
- Insurance policies
- Family records such as birth and marriage certificates
- Deeds, titles, mortgages, leases and other contracts
- Stocks, bonds, rare stamps and other collectibles.
